A word from Alan Severino … founder of Pacific Eastcoast

As a young accountant in the mid 1970’s I was busy with tax returns and profit and loss statements.


Cronulla Beach: Our first property recommendation in 1977.

I was a ‘go to’ financial person and it was my role to manage financial and taxation affairs.

When one of my clients asked me for investment property advice I had no idea what to tell them. I gave some text book answer about negative gearing and so forth …. but that’s not what my clients wanted. They needed hands on assistance in finding and buying the right investment property. Well it’s amazing what happens when you combine research, the energy of youth, open minded clients … and a little luck. An interesting, fortuitous circumstance came about not long after that client meeting.

A contact of mine had just developed a building in Sydney and the local market was a little down.  So armed with a set of plans, a basic price list and a couple of photographs, I began to research this new residential building in Sydney. I spoke to local real estate agents and ran the numbers. I looked at gearing rates and researched rental returns.

The property was in Cronulla, Sydney.  It was a low-rise residential building and was a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment with a car space. It had stunning  ocean views over Cronulla beach. This first property had all the points of difference we still look for in todays market 

My clients said yes and then needed assistance with finding some finance, a lawyer and other admin.

Incidentally I also helped another five or six other clients buy properties in that development and gave them the same service and support. This was possibly the first interstate “off the plan” apartment purchase by an investor, through a financial partner introduction.

We began talking to all our clients and because we understood their financial positions and financial goals we could genuinely find the right investment property fit for them.

Before long other accountants asked us to help their clients … and that’s how our network of advisors began.

That was 1977.

Fast forward almost 40 years and we now place in excess of 400 investments annually through our network of over 600 Financial Planners and Accountants. This has resulted in more than 8,000 individual  investors securing over $3 billion worth of quality residential investment property.

Today  The story continues. We are excited by the future and the possibilities for Pacific Eastcoast and our network of financial professionals.

Each development is carefully selected and must meet our own stringent criteria. Typically properties are:

  • Residential apartments or townhouses, commercial and retail properties in a bluechip location
  • Have the potential for resale into the owner occupier market
  • Outside a CBD, yet within 15km of a major city along Australia’s east coast
  • Serviced by existing public transport and infrastructure

We avoid holiday locations and house & land package style investments and our investments are generally not restricted use properties (such as serviced apartments and dedicated student accommodation)

Our Responsible Entity Services division provides an independent management service to property owners. We act as the link between the property operator and individual investors.

Our goal is to provide an efficient and seamless experience for the property owner by:

  • ensuring operations are compliant with the scheme documentation
